The Ehretia microphylla, commonly known as the Fukien Tea Tree, is a popular bonsai species due to its small, glossy leaves and attractive white flowers. When styled as a "ball," it takes on a compact, spherical shape, making it a beautiful and structured ornamental plant. The Fukien Tea Tree is widely used in indoor and outdoor landscaping, particularly in carefully pruned forms like the "ball" shape by Royal Plantscape.

Care Guidelines for the Fukien Tea Tree “Ball”:

  • Light: It thrives in bright, indirect light and can also tolerate some direct sunlight. If grown indoors, it’s best placed near a window with plenty of natural light.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. It doesn’t tolerate drought well, so make sure to water it regularly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering.
  • Humidity: The plant prefers a humid environment, so misting the leaves regularly or using a humidity tray is beneficial, especially indoors.
  • Soil: Well-draining, loamy soil with organic matter is ideal for this tree. It prefers soil that retains moisture but doesn’t become soggy.
  • Fertilizer: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) to promote healthy growth and blooming.
  • Pruning: To maintain the "ball" shape, regular pruning is required. It responds well to trimming, and shaping can be done to keep its rounded form.
  • Temperature: Ideal temperatures are between 60°F and 77°F (16°C to 25°C). It does not tolerate frost and should be kept indoors or in a protected outdoor area during colder months.

The Fukien Tea Tree is admired for its longevity and ornamental appeal. When cared for properly, it adds an elegant and refined look to any space, especially when styled as a "ball" by Royal Plantscape.
